Who We Are

Take the Next Step is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency located in Monroe, WA.

Our mission is to aid individuals and families who struggle to meet their daily needs by listening, encouraging, and connecting them with community resources that will help them overcome the barriers that keep them from becoming self-sufficient.

Our History

For several years many people from the congregation of Monroe Covenant Church worked with people who had limited resources yet endeavored to make significant positive changes in their lives.  They found that small obstacles became life-derailing experiences to those who had little or no support in their lives, while those with personal support, friendships, and nurturing were able to make positive changes in their lives.  This encouraged the people from the congregation to share God's love with their community by providing the support and nurturing necessary to make positive life changes.  Late in the fall of 2004 the church offered their parsonage, free of rent and utilities, for the drop-in community outreach program.  Members of the congregation cleaned, painted, and organized a community resource center in the parsonage.  These volunteers also donated furniture and supplies, researched the area resources and donated their time to bring Take the Next Step to the community.  In March of 2005, the doors were opened to their first guest.  In 2005, we served 428 families.
Our Funding

We are primarily funded by donations from local citizens who have a heart for their neighbors.  We are also funded through a United Way Families Matter Grant for individual counseling, a Covenant Denomination Church Planting Grant, donations from Source Northwest, donations from the Barney II Foundation, Christ Church donations, Cascade Community Church donations, and Monroe Covenant Church donations.
